... are participatory projects by deufert&plischke that explore how memories of dance, movement, and physical knowledge can be shared, collected, and brought to life beyond traditional forms of documentation. Together with local communities, the projects create spaces where people can share their personal experiences of dance and learn from each other.
Instead of seeing dance as something that disappears after it happens, these projects view it as a living archive that continues through stories, movements, and encounters between people. Through collaborative artistic activities, personal memories become connected to shared histories and experiences in the present.
A key part of the projects is the writing of Letters to Dance. Participants are invited to write directly to dance and share their memories, experiences, and thoughts about what dance means in their lives. Some of these letters are also recorded as short video portraits. Together with the Deutsches Tanzarchiv Köln, the letters are collected and preserved in a growing archive. So far, more than 2,000 Letters to Dance have been gathered from people around the world, reflecting many different cultures, communities, and life experiences.

Each project is developed in close collaboration with local communities and responds to its specific context. Depending on the place and participants, it can take the form of workshops, dance events, parades, films, discussions, or temporary archives. Every format is created to fit the needs and character of the local venue, festival, or community.
Since the projects began, they have taken place in many cities around the world, including Alexandria, Berlin, Bonn, Brussels, Curitiba, Dubai, Düsseldorf, Dresden, Essen, Istanbul, Cologne, Krefeld, Los Angeles, Mülheim, New York, Potsdam, Reykjavik, Schwelm, Singapore, Tel Aviv, and Viersen.
