Our new year-long artistic research project, Public Play / Public Interest, has just begun, made possible through the Artistic Research Fellowship of Kunststiftung NRW.
At the heart of Public Play / Public Interest lies an exploration of the political image of a playful, diverse society.
Since June, we have been investigating a question that has occupied us for a long time: What if play were not simply gaming or organised leisure, but one of the very foundations through which society comes into being?
We are not interested in play as a mediation tool or a participatory format within the arts. On the contrary, we want to explore how play itself begins to transform the artistic space. How it intervenes in a situation, unsettles expectations, shifts rules, generates resistance, disappoints, challenges, and gives rise to new forms of acting together.
