Since 2001, the artistwin has developed choreographies, performances, archives, publications and forms of socially engaged art that understand dance not as a finished work, but as a collective act. Their projects unfold in schools, theatres and museums, on streets and squares, in homes and digital spaces. At the heart of their practice is a recurring question: How can we create spaces in which people can act, tell stories, remember and imagine the future together?

THESPACEWEMAKE looks back on these 25 years — not as a retrospective, but as a movement towards what lies ahead. Drawing on the traces of countless encounters, it sets out on a journey into the future, nourished by collective memory. Together with long-standing collaborators from Johannesburg, Berlin, Cologne, Wuppertal and Schwelm, deufert&plischke create a multifaceted artistic experience somewhere between a dance concert, happening, workshop and multimedia performance.

The stage becomes a social space: voices, live music, texts, images and, above all, dance intertwine to form a living score of shared experiences. Stories emerge, disappear and reconnect. Memories are shared, bodies are set in motion, and encounters become choreographies.

Because what remains after 25 years of working together?

Not the works alone.

But the relationships they have made possible.

Not the spaces they have occupied.

But the spaces people have created together.
