Just in Time: Letters to an Unknown Theatre

We are delighted to have been invited to take part in a new and politically significant initiative with our project Just in Time – Letters to an Unknown Theatre. The Initiative Zukunft Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt is collaborating with the Master’s Programme in Dramaturgy/CDPR at the Institute for Theatre, Film and Media Studies, Goethe University Frankfurt, within the framework of the project

“Socio-Ecological Transformation of the Municipal Theatre” – a contribution to the World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026.

Over two semesters, the project will explore, through artistic and academic approaches, the future of Frankfurt’s theatres at Willy-Brandt-Platz, which are planned to be demolished and rebuilt at a cost of at least €1.3 billion.

It raises urgent questions that resonate far beyond Frankfurt:

What will the city theatre of tomorrow look like? What kind of architecture does it need? And how can it strengthen democratic public life?
